Republican Party Principles
I am a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each persons dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
Why are we Republicans? Each has a different answer but with a common thread. The Republican Party has a long and proud history of protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens and being the “party of the people”. The new RNC Website has a great section on the history and accomplishments of the Republican Party. Knowing our history will better equip you to counter the misconceptions and outright falsehoods that are said about us.
Just a few of the accomplishments include;
1)The first Hispanic Governor (1863) and the first Hispanic Senator (1928) were Republicans.
2)The Republican Party freed the slaves (1864)
3)The Republican Party passed the 14th amendment (due process and equal rights to all citizens), the 15th amendment (extending the right to vote to African-Americans) as well as wrote the 19th amendment (gave the right to vote to women).
4)The first Black Senator was Republican (1870)
5)Republicans passed the civil rights act of 1875 and 1957.
6)The first female mayors in the country were Republicans.
7)The Reagan Tax cuts of the 1980s were responsible for ending the stagflation and misery of the Carter era.
